How do I know if my pine tree needs to be removed?

Why are the needles on my ponderosa pine turning yellow?

It's a warning sign when needles turn yellow, red, or brown from the top of the tree down, across the whole crown, or outside of fall. That can mean drought stress, root damage, or bark beetles. Can a pine tree with bark beetles be saved?
